Early Reading Foundations

Building
strong early reading skills
in children ages 4–6
— online, one child at a time.

Give Your Child the Strongest Possible Start

The early years are when reading foundations are built — or missed. By Year 1, the children who will become confident readers and the children who will struggle have usually already started to separate.

The difference is rarely effort or intelligence. It is whether a child has been taught the underlying sound–letter system explicitly, systematically, and in the right order.

Many schools still don't teach phonics this way. The result is that even bright, capable children can develop habits — guessing from pictures, memorising word shapes — that quietly hold them back later.

This program gives your child the right foundation, taught the right way, from the very beginning.

The program uses structured, decodable reading texts aligned with the Science of Reading and widely used in international classrooms.

Your child will only read texts that match the sounds and patterns they have been explicitly taught — building real reading accuracy from the start.

This is not general tutoring. It is specialist early reading instruction, taught by an active Reception teacher.

Meet Your Teacher

M.A. Special Education ·Reading Interventionist ·Behaviour Support Specialist ·Dyslexia-SPELD Foundation Professional Member

Hi, I'm Nikol — a Special Education Teacher, Reading Interventionist, and Behaviour Support Specialist with a Master of Arts in Special Education (University of Arizona) and over 15 years of international classroom experience, currently working as a Reception/Foundation teacher at Rugby School Thailand (www.rugbyschool.ac.th), where I teach reading to children ages 4–6 every day in the classroom.

I hold certifications in Systematic and Explicit Phonics, Structured Literacy, ABA Behaviour Support, and Teaching Reading and Writing to PK-5 — all grounded in the Science of Reading.

When I work with your child online, you're getting the same structured, evidence-based teaching that prepares children in respected international schools for confident reading — delivered one-to-one.

Program Structure

Specialist Reading Support is delivered online via Zoom — 45 minutes, 1:1, tailored entirely to your child.

Two sessions per week is the recommended frequency for children aged 4–6, building their foundational reading skills. Consistent, frequent practice is what produces visible, lasting progress at this stage — anything less risks slow drift rather than steady building. More intensive options (three or more sessions per week) are available where faster progress is needed, or your child is preparing for a school transition.

Sessions are booked in blocks of 10, paid upfront. Sessions never expire: if illness, holidays, or life get in the way, we carry them forward.

Investment

18,500 THB for a 10-session package.

Sessions are paid upfront in blocks of 10 and never expire — if illness, holidays, or life get in the way, we carry them forward.

Your 2,000 THB reading assessment fee is fully credited toward your first package, bringing your initial investment to 16,500 THB.

What's included:

  • Ten 45-minute one-to-one sessions with a qualified Special Education Teacher

  • Initial Reading Profile with personalised learning plan (the 2,000 THB assessment, fully credited)

  • Mid-Program Reading Review — written progress report after Session 5

  • End-of-Program Reading Review — written progress report after Session 10

  • Individual Sunshine Online subscription for the duration of your package

  • Brief between-session updates so you always know what your child is working on

  • Email support for quick questions between sessions

Each Session Includes

Each session follows a clear, structured format designed to build reading skills efficiently and confidently:

  • Review of previously learned sounds and patterns

  • Explicit teaching of a new sound, pattern, or decoding skill

  • Guided reading using carefully matched decodable text

  • Immediate error correction and feedback

  • Short encoding (spelling) practice to reinforce learning

Every step is intentional, ensuring your child understands how reading works — not just what words say.

Sessions are delivered live online and tailored to your child’s level.

Adult Participation

Reading is a partnership between teacher, child, and family. You choose the level of involvement that works best for your child and your family:

  1. Child Only. Your child works independently with me during the session. Best for confident, independent learners and older children who focus better without a parent visible. You receive a written session summary after each lesson.

  2. Child and Parent Together. You sit alongside your child during the session, sharing one device. Best for very young learners, anxious readers, or families committed to reinforcing the methodology at home. You see exactly how each skill is taught and can replicate it during home practice.

  3. Parent as Silent Observer. You join the session from a separate device with your camera and microphone off. Best for children who become self-conscious with a parent visible, while still giving you full visibility into your child's learning and progress.

All three options are equally valid. You can change between them at any time — what works at the start of the programme may change as your child grows in confidence.

We discuss the right starting mode for your child during your assessment.

How We Track
Your Child's Progress

Reading progress isn't something parents should have to guess at. Three formal written assessments are built into every 10-session package:

  • Initial Reading Profile (before Session 1). Establishes your child's exact starting point — phonological awareness, letter–sound knowledge, decoding accuracy, fluency, and comprehension. This becomes the baseline against which all progress is measured.

  • Mid-Program Reading Review (after Session 5). A structured re-assessment at the halfway point, tested directly against your child's baseline. You receive a written report documenting specific gains, what's working, and any adjustments to the plan for the remaining sessions.

  • End-of-Program Reading Review (after Session 10). A complete reassessment showing the full progression from baseline to mid-program to end. The report includes specific recommendations for what comes next — whether that's a second package, a different focus, or independent next steps.

Together, these three documents give you a clear, evidence-based record of your child's reading development. They are also useful to share with your child's school or any other professional involved in their learning.

Home Practice

Reading progress isn't built in the lesson alone — it's consolidated through short, structured practice between sessions. Your child receives an individual subscription to Sunshine Online, included in your package.

Sunshine Online is one of Australia's leading digital decodable reading libraries — used in classrooms across the country and stocked by SPELD NSW. The library contains over 900 carefully sequenced decodable books with Australian illustration and voiceover, plus phonics activities, AI-supported reading practice, and progress tracking.

Your child reads only books that match the sounds and patterns we have explicitly taught. No guessing, no struggle, no frustration — just successful, confident reading from the very first page.

You also receive simple, clear guidance from me on which titles to assign and how much to practise, so home reading reinforces our sessions rather than becoming another thing on your to-do list.
